The Eufymake E1 is a prosumer UV printer that uses proprietary ink cartridges with integrated magnetic stirrers, making them expensive to replace. Hacker charliex reverse-engineered the cartridge system to enable manual refilling using syringes and bypassing spring-loaded valve mechanisms. The cleaning cartridge can also be emptied and has a hidden refill port. The motivation goes beyond cost savings — if the manufacturer runs out of stock or shuts down, refilling becomes essential to keep the printer functional. Software DRM on the cartridges appears limited so far, leaving the door open for this approach.
