The Computing Community Consortium (CCC) and IEEE Computer Society co-hosted the 'Beyond Code: Engineering Trustworthy Software Systems with AI at Scale' workshop in San Francisco on February 25-26, 2026. Dozens of experts from academia, industry, government, and NGOs gathered to discuss AI's current impact and chart a responsible roadmap for using AI to build complex, interdependent software systems. Key topics included the evolving role of computer scientists, AI education, human-AI collaboration, AI output trustworthiness, and accountability. A full workshop report synthesizing findings and research/policy recommendations is expected in 2027. The CCC also launched an AI Research Ecosystem discussion forum inviting broader community input.
