BLAKE3 is a more secure and efficient hashing algorithm compared to SHA256. It was designed by Jean-Philippe Aumasson and others, and offers security features such as protection against length-extension attacks and domain separation guarantees. BLAKE3 is also much more time and energy efficient than SHA256, and can take advantage of parallel processing capabilities in CPUs, FPGAs, GPUs, and RISC-V Vector computing.
