Electron is a framework for creating native applications with web technologies like JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. The Electron app is written in plain-old HTML and JavaScript. The Tauri app installer is around 2,5MB (!!!), while the Electron install is around ~85MB. Tauri has many security features built-in by default. You can even explicitly enable or disable certain APIs.

I remember looking at Tauri a long time back, but I haven’t kept up with it’s progress lately… Rust just isn’t “my thing”, if that makes sense. personally, having the option of using other coding languages for the backend is a pretty big one…
those output binary sizes are just so tempting though… it’s actually worth the extra bit of effort to do some cross-browser compatibility.
I’ve always been a JS fanboy, ES6 made it more fun, then TS gave it more structure, and now Dart is building on the lessons of these (and other) languages.
…and yes, I know Flutter is also usable for desktop, but it feels like “overkill” for some things. serving up a little bit of static HTML is quick and easy. (<code>npx serve .</code> anyone…?) but I digress…
edit: how you decide to create those static HTML files and all the resources is the real fun part of web development.

Tauri is more rust, but less js. In a standard workflow, the js part should only used to write the interface.

I built a template with vue + vite with tauri, and I can say it’s extremely fast and has a beautiful development experience.
