<h2>Single installer image</h2>
<p>Previously, ReactOS shipped two separate ISOs: a text-mode installer and a LiveCD. That split caused genuine confusion about which one to download. The two have now been merged into a single unified BootCD image that handles both roles. It’s a straightforward quality-of-life fix, and it also lays the groundwork for a future GUI installer to replace the old text-based setup.</p>
<h2>New ATA storage driver</h2>
<p>The more technically significant change is a new plug-and-play aware ATA storage stack. It replaces the older UniATA driver and adds proper support for SATA, PATA, ATAPI, and AHCI devices, with NT6+ compatibility. In practice, this means ReactOS can now boot on a wider range of hardware than before, including machines where the old driver would simply fail.</p>
<h2>What’s next</h2>
<p>Both changes are expected to land in ReactOS 0.4.16, which has already been branched with release candidates on the way. Nightly builds for 0.4.17 have also started. If you’ve been curious about testing ReactOS on real hardware, this is probably the best moment to try it.</p>
