React Native 0.85 ships a new Shared Animation Backend — a unified C++ engine built into the New Architecture/Fabric — that lets the Animated API animate layout properties (like width) with useNativeDriver, something that previously crashed. The release also moves the Jest preset to its own package requiring a config update, and drops support for Node versions below 20.19.4.
