Raspberry Pi has raised prices across all its models due to a global LPDDR4 DRAM shortage, with increases ranging from $25 to $150 depending on the model. To offer a lower-cost option, a new Raspberry Pi 4 with 3GB of RAM is being introduced at $83.75. Founder Eben Upton attributes the crisis to a sevenfold rise in LPDDR4 prices over the past year, driven by major memory manufacturers like Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron prioritizing AI data center supply. Upton has promised the price hikes are temporary and will be reversed once memory costs normalize. The broader memory crisis has also impacted other consumer hardware, including cancellations and delays of products like the Ayaneo Next 3 and Valve's Steam Machine.
