EverQuest Legends is a revival of the original 1999 EverQuest MMO, developed by Game Jawn — an indie studio formed by veterans of the EverQuest emulation community — and published by Daybreak Games. The project involved excavating lost assets from old CDs and archives, restoring spell effects and code that had been missing for decades. The game retains old-school graphics and mechanics but adds quality-of-life improvements to make it more accessible: groups are capped at four players, raids at eight (down from 54), and the full game can be completed solo. Daybreak is targeting both lapsed players who found the original too hardcore and new players curious about the franchise. It launches into closed beta before a July release, using a subscription business model rather than free-to-play.
