The RADV Vulkan driver for AMD Radeon GPUs received a significant ray-tracing optimization in Mesa 26.0. By improving BVH4 acceleration structure updates, the driver now uses 1/7th the scratch memory and delivers 30% faster performance on RDNA2 hardware like the RX 6700 XT when running games like Guardians of the Galaxy. The optimization works by computing child node indices within parent nodes and writing bounds more efficiently, reducing memory loads from up to 16 AABBs. Mesa 26.0 stable is expected in February 2026.
