Quarkus has been making waves in the Java ecosystem as a Kubernetes-native framework designed for cloud-native and serverless applications. In this post, we’ll explore its key features, how it stacks up against Spring, and a bit about my personal experience using it!

You might be wondering: “Why should I use Quarkus instead of Spring and Spring Boot, which are already well-established frameworks?” 🤔

I’m not saying Quarkus is necessarily better than Spring Boot—it’s just a more recent alternative that was built specifically for the cloud and microservices context we’re in today. 🌐
<h1>💼 My Experience with Quarkus</h1>
I had the opportunity to use Quarkus on a college project where we developed a distributed inventory system that synchronized products across multiple databases from different stores. It turned out to be a great fit, especially since we were using AWS—Quarkus’ cloud-native features made the integration super smooth! ☁️
One thing that stood out was how well Quarkus played with Kubernetes. For example, when you create a project, it already generates 4 Dockerfiles optimized for different use cases. This saved us a ton of time! 🕒
Quarkus’ simplicity made it easy for me to implement a microservices architecture with K8s and observability tools, much easier than I originally thought! It was an awesome experience! 🙌

Compared to Spring, Quarkus offers advantages in startup time, memory footprint, and cloud-native design, albeit with a steeper learning curve for Spring developers. The author's experience highlights its suitability for modern, containerized applications, particularly in environments like AWS and Kubernetes.

Quarkus: The Supersonic Subatomic Java Framework

I have worked with Quarkus in a professional project. It is an excellent framework for developers. The jump from Spring is small and it even supports lots of Spring annotations. The repositories are nice to use with little extra easy-to-use features with the Quarkus Panache library.
The main thing was the quick feedback loop. Run your application in dev mode and start coding - on save it will run all unit tests affected by your changes and give you instant feedback if you’ve broken something. Almost feels like FrontEnd development with an instant feedback loop on changes.
Definitely worth a try - don’t be afraid of it.
