Netflix engineers Prasanna Vijayanathan and Renzo Sanchez-Silva presented at QCon London 2026 on their ontology-driven observability system. They described building an end-to-end knowledge graph that models the Netflix user experience as a connected graph of users, clients, services, and infrastructure. The system uses a triple-based data structure (Subject | Predicate | Object) across 12 operational namespaces to unify siloed observability data. A 'Knowledge Flywheel' with Observer, Enrich, and Infer states continuously encodes operational knowledge, with Claude used as a co-developer to propose code changes via pull requests. The goal is to reduce incident resolution time, automate root cause analysis, and eventually enable self-healing infrastructure.
