The PyTorch Foundation has welcomed Helion as a new foundation-hosted project, joining DeepSpeed, PyTorch, Ray, and vLLM. Contributed by Meta, Helion is a Python-embedded DSL for authoring ML kernels that compiles to multiple backends (Triton, TileIR, and more), enabling hardware performance portability and automated ahead-of-time autotuning. It aims to simplify kernel authoring, reduce manual coding effort, and improve cross-platform compatibility as AI inference at scale becomes increasingly important. Additionally, ExecuTorch is being integrated into PyTorch Core to extend model functionality for edge and on-device environments.
