The PSF relies on hotel commissions to subsidize convention center costs and keep ticket prices affordable. As of mid-April 2026, only 2,192 hotel nights have been sold versus the 3,338 needed by April 20th to avoid paying over $200,000 in damages to hotels. The shortfall is attributed largely to declining international attendance due to the current geopolitical climate in the US. Attendees are urged to book official conference hotels through their PyCon US dashboard before the April 20th–24th deadlines.
