Oracle's Project Detroit, aimed at enabling interoperability between Java and Python or JavaScript, is set to become an official OpenJDK project. Announced at JavaOne on March 17, the project provides implementations of the javax.script API using Chrome V8 for JavaScript and CPython for Python. Originally proposed in 2018 and later abandoned, it has been revived to address Java ecosystem needs such as scripting for business logic, easier access to AI libraries in other languages, and improved security through heap isolation. The Java FFM API will be leveraged, and support for additional languages beyond Python and JavaScript is planned for the future.
