my name is “Mcbrei” and this is my first post, so bear with me a bit as I don’t know what is appropriate to post here.
They say you should focus on the things you love and enjoy, and not focus too much on money. So I decided to get into Unity at the age of 38, because I find games very fascinating and have been playing games for 28 years.
I’m a big fan of archives and rewards, so Unity Learn was very accommodating for me.

What I find strange is that many courses, even if you work strictly according to plan or how to do it as the instructor demonstrates, it usually doesn’t work and you have to look at how others have solved it via the questions forum (usually more complicated because many write codes that you haven’t learned yet).
You get the feeling that people give up and don’t want to deal with it anymore.
I’m currently experiencing this. When I look at my learning statistics, I wonder if it’s justified. But thanks to Unity Muse (the in-house Chatgpt and ChatGpt itself are great helpers for dealing with the engine)
I am currently developing a “ship-fighting game” and have already developed a model of a ship using Blender.

i am not sure since i use godot but please do keep me updated.(though i think you described tutorial hell ,its not about learning strictly more or less understanding and if you fail to understand then overall you fail to create)

I have gone through the ‘Essentials’ and ‘Jr Programmer’ courses on Unity Learn, and there were definitely some times where I felt lost. The comments of other users can often help if youre stuck, but if you’re simply not understanding the instructions (I ran into that several times) but I played with unity in 2016 before I set it down until U6, so I had some foundation in C# and the application already.
What I find most helpful about Unity Learn is the ability to go back to a lesson that had something interesting or confusing so I can return to it when I encounter a similar problem in my own work. Repetition creates familiarity, so it gets easier the longer you use Unity.

It’s great to heard that there are some late game dev passionates like me around!
Regaridng unity learning paths, I’ve been folowing some of them and are useful as a introduction, but I higly recommend to explore other sources, specially <a href="http://gamedev.tv" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">gamedev.tv</a> . They are so good and with a fit price.

Tutorials can be a great place to start. The problem is, it is very difficult to write down everything you do without missing something. Usually, tutorials that don’t work aren’t “wrong” they just did something and forgot to tell you. Consider it a learning moment.
Although I am more of book person than a video person, I often watch video tutorials, but I spend more time looking at the rest of screen, rather than listening to the instructions. In the case of Unity, I look for options that might be toggled that I missed. Things like that. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.
The best thing you can do is find an active community. It seems to me the Unity Learn site has gone through periods of hype and neglect so their forums may not be the best community. However, Unity does have other communities on Discord and even Facebook. Some of them might be more active. If you can find a local group that actually meets in person that would be even better.
Finally, don’t be afraid to go “off-script” with the tutorials when they start to bore you. Follow the tutorial, make it work. Then start monkeying with it. I took the “Floor is Lava” tutorial from Unity Learn and used it to try out different camera angles. You can see it here:

I’ve never used Unity Learn, however I’ve learned quite a bit just doing mild research with Stack Overflow, Unity Discussions, and the Unity Manual. It may be a little tedious going and learning it own your own, but it’s gotten me through a lot of different problems and is accessible to everyone (who programs). So, in conclusion, I find self-teaching or simple tutorials much easier than trying to follow a course and figure that many developers can also benefit from this method.
