Linux 6.18 brings significant progress for Apple Silicon support through the Asahi Linux project. Key achievements include merging SMC subdevice drivers (hwmon and RTC) for 6.19, upstreaming USB3 support via USB-C ports, and fixing microphone support on M2 Pro/Max MacBooks (resolved by correcting a single DMA range property). The team is improving the installation experience by working with Anaconda and KDE Plasma Setup to enable safer, more flexible installations directly from live media without risking Apple's critical system partitions. An Asahi-themed talk is scheduled for 39C3.
