Linux 6.16 brings significant improvements to Asahi Linux for Apple Silicon Macs. The Mesa GPU drivers are now fully upstream, eliminating the need for custom Flatpak extensions and completing the transition to upstream graphics stack. Performance optimizations in Mesa 25.2 provide notable improvements, especially for gaming. A new WoW64 implementation allows 32-bit Windows applications to run without virtualization, improving performance and reducing complexity. The project has upstreamed over 200 patches, reducing downstream maintenance burden by 20%. Additional improvements include SPMI controller support, audio driver updates, and various bug fixes for Plymouth and OBS screencasting.
