I think we have a long time before this work goes away. Even though the technology is available and could replace us already nobody knows what to do with it. We’ve had similar situations in the past and they’ve never actually replaced any of us.

The issue is, if we stop hiring junior devs and raise responsibilities of seniors, what happens when they move on and the effort to train up newcomers to back-fill them was never put in?

Article stilted with minimalistic perspective. Most businesses are small businesses that need tech support in the form of freelance developers, not teams of developers contracted or hired for the 20% or so large corporations. Small business owners will not have the time to learn or implement the skills necessary to achieve their business tech wants, needs and desires. They will require one or two persons who are 360 degree (front-end,/we design, server-side/databases, and ux/ui/design graphics) developers who know more and do more. They will perform the job of three people, while getting paid the work of two trade-off scenario. Therefore, I humbly suggest to build a network of niche freelance clients and serve the needs of 80% of the market who cannot afford, will not trust and will not pay for the latest A.I. tech…BTW - Junior Developers? They should learn their chops by taking on overload work from freelance agency. You know the additional work that freelance companies receive that is mundane, but must be completed. Once the Junior Developer shows initiative and can take guiding criticism and improve, he can be taken on as a full-contractor with the freelance agency or branch out on their own freelance niche quest…
