Volunteers at the Claymills Pumping Station in the UK are in the final stages of restoring a 1930s Lancashire boiler that last operated in 1971. Key tasks included freeing a completely seized damper shaft (which had to be replaced with a manufactured replica), fitting cast-iron ash boxes, inspecting automatic sprinkler stokers, replacing missing furnace doors with replicas, and refurbishing surrounding pipework and brickwork. Despite passing a 120 PSI pressure test with all safety systems operational, several more weeks of reassembly work remain before the boiler can be fired up again after 50 years.
