A detailed investigative analysis argues that Oracle is on a path to financial ruin due to its massive bet on the Stargate AI infrastructure project. Oracle is spending an estimated $340 billion to build data centers exclusively for OpenAI, which itself is projected to lose over $167 billion by 2028 and lacks the funds to pay Oracle on an ongoing basis. The Stargate Abilene campus — the only site near completion — is severely behind schedule, with only two buildings operational out of eight planned, and won't likely finish before Q2 2027. Oracle has taken on over $100 billion in debt and sold $20 billion in shares to fund construction, while its core businesses stagnate. Even if OpenAI pays, GPU obsolescence and the sheer cost of construction make it nearly impossible for Oracle to recoup its investment before the hardware becomes worthless.
