MIT.nano has transitioned from the aging CORAL platform to NEMO, an open-source laboratory management system originally developed at NIST. The new system centralizes tool reservations, training workflows, safety compliance, and communications for over 1,500 researchers using 200+ instruments that collectively log 160,000 hours of work annually. NEMO's modular architecture and plugin framework allow deep customization and integration with MIT's existing digital infrastructure, including authentication and billing. MIT.nano collaborated with NEMO's project lead and MIT IT teams to handle cleanroom-specific challenges. As one of the largest NEMO deployments globally, MIT.nano's enhancements are now benefiting other research facilities worldwide.
