Auto-scrolling content creates serious accessibility problems, particularly for Android TalkBack screen reader users who experience constant, annoying audio cues (earcons) that make apps nearly unusable. The issue affects both native mobile apps and web pages on Android, though iOS VoiceOver is unaffected. Beyond screen reader users, auto-scrolling harms people with cognitive disabilities, those who get distracted easily, users who rely on zoom, and those with sensory sensitivities. The recommended solution is to eliminate auto-scrolling entirely or provide manual pause/stop controls, as even WCAG-compliant implementations still create poor user experiences.
