PlanetScale has released general availability of vector search and storage capabilities for MySQL databases. The implementation includes native relational database features like transactions, joins, and standard SQL operations while supporting vectors up to 16,383 dimensions. Key improvements include doubled query performance, 8x better memory efficiency, and the ability to handle indexes 6x larger than available RAM using SPANN (Space-Partitioned Approximate Nearest Neighbors) technology. The feature integrates with existing PlanetScale functionality including branching, deploy requests, backups, and cross-region replication.
