Cloudflare has launched Custom Regions, an extension of its Regional Services that allows customers to define precise geographic boundaries for data processing. Unlike the 35 pre-defined regions previously available, Custom Regions let customers specify arbitrary country groupings using expression-based rules (e.g., country_code == "TR" or exclusion rules). TLS termination and Layer 7 processing are enforced to occur only within the defined region, while global ingestion and DDoS protection still happen at the nearest edge node. The feature targets compliance requirements like GDPR and data sovereignty mandates. Currently, it is not self-serve and requires contacting a Cloudflare account team.
