PHPUnit 13 is out, and I’m genuinely excited about how much more modern it makes my everyday testing workflow. In my latest live session from the “Test Smarter, Not Harder” series, I walked through what PHPUnit looks like after 26 years of evolution and why those annual major releases are absolutely worth paying attention to.

I show how the deprecation and removal process actually works in practice, and how you can upgrade from older versions without blowing up your test suite. Along the way, I dig into the new array assertions that finally sit in the sweet spot between assertSame() and assertEquals(), the long‑awaited successors to withConsecutive(), and the new sealed test doubles that make it much harder to misuse mocks and stubs.
