Athenz is an open source CNCF sandbox project that implements zero trust security principles for dynamic infrastructures. It issues short-lived X.509 certificates as service identities to workloads in private and public clouds, enabling mTLS-based authentication. It also provides fine-grained RBAC authorization via industry-standard OAuth2/JWT access tokens.
