Papers, GNOME's document viewer app, now includes handwriting and text annotation features in its nightly builds. The new tools allow users to draw on PDFs with ink tools for signatures and callouts, and add moveable text boxes for form filling. Developer Lucas Baudin implemented these features by making changes to the poppler PDF rendering library and Papers' UI, also improving document form accessibility. The features will be available in GNOME 50 (March 2026) and Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (April 2026).
