Oracle is reducing the frequency of Solaris 11.4 software updates from three to two per quarter. Going forward, one update will align with Oracle's quarterly security patch cycle, followed by a feature/enhancement update roughly six weeks later. Oracle cites simplified lifecycle management and customer behavior (many already applying updates twice per quarter) as reasons. This change reflects the continued slow wind-down of Solaris development, with no successor to 11.4 on the horizon and Oracle having committed to supporting Solaris 11 only through incremental updates until 2034.
