Percona is donating its database management tool to the CNCF, renaming it from Percona Everest to OpenEverest. The tool provides a unified interface for provisioning and managing multiple database types (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) on Kubernetes through a web interface and RESTful API. It uses database-independent custom resource definitions to abstract away database-specific setup routines, allowing admins to manage different databases identically. The move aims to establish OpenEverest as a vendor-neutral, community-led project for Kubernetes data platforms, while Percona founder Peter Zaitsev has formed a new company, Solanica, to provide enterprise support.
