The acquisition aims to integrate Astral's tooling into OpenAI's Codex ecosystem, enabling AI agents to work more directly within Python developer workflows. Codex has already reached over 2 million weekly active users with 3x user growth and 5x usage increase since the start of the year. After closing, the Astral team will join the Codex team, with plans to maintain the open source projects while exploring deeper integrations across the full software development lifecycle.
