OpenAI has closed a $110-billion funding round that values the company at $840 billion, one of the largest private capital raises on record. Key investors include SoftBank ($30B), Nvidia ($30B), and Amazon ($50B). SoftBank's total stake reaches $64.6B (~13% ownership), with investments phased throughout 2026 ahead of an anticipated IPO. The round raises Wall Street concerns about 'circular' financing, where firms invest in and sign supply deals with each other. As part of the deal, AWS becomes the exclusive third-party cloud provider for OpenAI Frontier, while Microsoft Azure retains exclusivity for OpenAI's APIs. OpenAI also committed to spending an additional $100B on AWS over eight years and will use Nvidia's Rubin systems for 5GW of compute capacity. ChatGPT now serves over 900 million weekly active users and 50 million consumer subscribers.
