The tier offers 5x more Codex usage than Plus, access to Pro models, deep research features, and early access to experimental tools. OpenAI explicitly positions this against Claude Code, citing better coding capacity per dollar. Codex has grown to over 3 million active users with 70% month-over-month growth. The move comes as Anthropic faces user complaints about Claude Code hitting usage limits too quickly, and mirrors Anthropic's own $100/month Max tier structure.
