OpenAI's Codex agentic coding app is now available on Windows, following the Mac launch that hit 1 million downloads in its first week and now has 1.6 million weekly active users. Over 500,000 developers were on the Windows waitlist. The Windows version was built natively for Windows developer environments, featuring OS-level sandboxing with restricted tokens and filesystem access controls, PowerShell support, and an option to use Windows Subsystem for Linux. It includes all the same skills and automations as the Mac version, plus a Windows-specific WinUI skill. The default model is GPT-5.3-Codex, with options to switch to other GPT-5 variants. It's available to all ChatGPT tier users.
