OpenAI has announced a major update to its Agents SDK, evolving it from a basic chatbot-oriented framework into a production-ready agent platform. The headline feature is sandboxed workspaces that separate the agent harness from compute, enabling security isolation and scalability. Developers can bring their own container infrastructure or use partners like Blaxel, Cloudflare, E2B, Modal, and Vercel. Agents can mount cloud storage from AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob Storage, and Cloudflare R2, and support container snapshotting for stateful workflows. The SDK also gains configurable memory and file/document support. Pricing remains unchanged — users pay only for tokens and tool use consumed via the API.
