OpenAI is in talks to acquire Codeium, the maker of the AI coding assistant tool Windsurf, for approximately $3 billion. This acquisition could put OpenAI in competition with other AI coding tool providers such as Anysphere, the creator of Cursor. Codeium, founded in 2021, has previously raised $243 million and is currently generating about $40 million in annual recurring revenue. News of the acquisition comes as Codeium users received an email about locking in the price for the coding editor, and OpenAI's chief product officer praised Windsurf's capabilities recently.
