OpenAI’s co-founder and chief scientist, Ilya Sutskever, has officially announced his departure from the company. Sutskever, known for his instrumental role in OpenAI’s technical breakthroughs, has been a key engineer behind their success. His departure comes six months after the temporary ousting of CEO Sam Altman, in which Sutskever played a significant part.
OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, expressed his sadness at Sutskever’s departure and took the opportunity to introduce Jakub Pachocki as the new Chief Scientist. Pachocki has been leading the development of GPT-4 and OpenAI Five as well as conducting research in large-scale reinforcement learning and deep learning optimization.
Altman also expressed his gratitude for Sutskever’s contributions to OpenAI and the field of artificial intelligence as a whole. With Pachocki stepping in, OpenAI aims to continue their mission of leading the way in AI research and development.
