OpenAI is expanding Codex to the ChatGPT mobile app on iOS and Android, previously limited to desktop, CLI, and web. The mobile app connects to a local or remote machine running Codex via a secure relay layer, keeping it in sync with the desktop environment and inheriting all its credentials and security policies. OpenAI positions this as more capable than Anthropic's Dispatch for Claude Cowork, noting it supports all existing threads rather than just dispatching individual tasks. Additional updates include remote SSH access for enterprise environments, programmatic access tokens with scoped credentials for Enterprise and Business users, and HIPAA-compliant Codex usage for Enterprise customers. Codex now has over 4 million weekly users. macOS is supported at launch; Windows support is coming soon.
