starting the career as a web developer i hit the solid wall of :“production projects are massive” unlike the project i used to do while studying
realizing again my laptop is suffering a massive project in vs code and at the really start i couldn’t afford a huge upgrade so i had to figure it out
landed 2 main pieces of open source that saved my laptop &amp; my career
1- simply switching to linux (simple and friendly distro like ubuntu) was the biggest upgrade i did and it was just setting me free giving my old machine a boost
starting there gave took me to the second one
2- Zed … the text editor
for me … never felt such a speed &amp; performance in any text editor with a decent GUI and great AI integration and actually built in features that you have to add then as extensions in VS code … not to mention … it’s built in Rust and it’s open source … so you do what you need and they have a really active community in discord growing fast
the plot ? i upgraded my laptop yet still on ubuntu and zed :)
