Google Summer of Code is celebrating its 22nd year in 2026!  GSoC started back in 2005 and has brought over 22,000 new contributors from 123 countries

Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2026 applications are open until March 31, 2026 at 18:00 UTC. Now in its 22nd year, GSoC has brought over 22,000 contributors from 123 countries into open source. The program offers students and open source beginners (18+) a 12+ week paid coding experience with mentorship from experienced contributors. Applicants are advised to read the contributor guide, write strong proposals, explore the 184 participating mentoring organizations, and reach out to them promptly via their preferred contact methods.
