New research from CyberSmart surveying 670 business leaders across Europe reveals only 16% of businesses required to comply with the EU's NIS2 directive feel fully compliant, despite the October 2024 deadline having passed. Alarmingly, 11% of in-scope respondents don't even know what NIS2 is. The main barriers are budgetary constraints (20%), lack of implementation guidance (16%), and insufficient internal expertise (11%). Motivation isn't the issue — 75% see competitive advantage in compliance, and market pressure is growing, with 42% asked to prove compliance by partners. Broader regulatory fatigue is also evident, with 42% saying there are too many overlapping regulations to manage simultaneously.
