Sizable Energy raised $8 million to develop ocean-based energy storage using flexible reservoirs that pump super-salty water between depths. The system mimics traditional pumped-storage hydropower but operates offshore, enabling mass production and deployment near any grid with access to waters at least 500 meters deep. Each turbine would generate 6-7 megawatts, with the startup targeting €20 per kilowatt-hour storage costs by 2026—roughly one-tenth the price of grid-scale batteries.
