I have my own VPS (hosted on OVH). i’ve learned how to configure nginx, optimize PHP, run nodeJS script in prod env, use firewall, add elasticsearch etc etc…i prefer this kind of stuff instead of Netlify or Vercel

It is a thin line between self-hosting and re-inventing the wheel. Going into the rabbit hole of configuring everything from scratch or using a poorly documented niche tool for something as straight forward as a reverse proxy can have the opposite results when learning a bunch of new stuff at the same time. My advice is to break it down; start with the simplest tools and replace them with more enterprise solutions as you go (e.g. start with caddy before jumping into nginx).
