Two inmates at Marion Correctional Institution in Ohio built computers from parts obtained through a prison PC recycling programme, hid them in a ceiling, and connected them to the prison network. The scheme was uncovered in July 2015 when IT staff noticed unusual internet activity on a contractor's account that was not scheduled to be active. Forensic analysis of the hidden machines revealed pornography, instructions for making drugs and explosives, and records of inmate passes. The Ohio Inspector General's Office published a report on the incident, which has been forwarded to relevant authorities.
