<a href="http://Office.eu" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">Office.eu</a>, a cloud productivity suite built on open-source software, has launched in The Hague. It’s positioned as a European-owned alternative to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, running entirely on servers operated by German provider Hetzner and designed to keep EU customer data under European law - out of reach of the US Cloud Act.
The platform is built on Nextcloud Hub and Collabora Online (which is based on LibreOffice), and includes migration tools for users switching from Microsoft or Google. It’s currently rolling out by invitation, with a broader phased launch across Europe planned for Q2 2026. Pricing is comparable to or lower than Microsoft 365’s entry tier.
The timing isn’t accidental. All 27 EU member states recently signed a declaration on digital sovereignty, and sovereign cloud spending in Europe is forecast to triple to $23 billion by 2027. France, Germany’s Schleswig-Holstein state, and Denmark are already moving government operations toward open-source tools. <a href="http://Office.eu" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">Office.eu</a> had nearly 15,000 early access applicants before launch.
Whether it gains real traction beyond governments and privacy-conscious organizations remains to be seen - Microsoft 365 has deep roots in European enterprises - but the demand signal is clearly there.
