Not optional

Postponing software updates to avoid costs is counterproductive and unsustainable. Just like car maintenance, keeping dependencies up to date is a necessary ongoing expense, not optional. Delaying updates only increases the difficulty and cost over time as the gap between current and outdated versions grows larger. Users expecting years of long-term support without investing in maintenance are shifting their responsibility onto open source maintainers.
