Dr. Scott M. Baker has designed and implemented NostOS, a new operating system for the RC2014 retro computer. Despite existing options like RomWBW and Fuzix, Baker wanted to build his own OS drawing inspiration from historical systems like HDOS (Heathkit H8), ISIS (Intel 8080), and CP/M. NostOS features runtime loadable drivers, device duplication, and device reassignment — enabling creative uses like simultaneously outputting to a serial console and text-to-speech for a talking Zork game. The source code is available on GitHub.
