Ukrainian national Oleksandr Didenko has been sentenced to five years in US federal prison for running Upworksell.com, a platform that helped North Korean IT workers steal American identities and fraudulently secure US tech jobs. Operating from 2021 until May 2024, Didenko managed up to 871 proxy identities and funded laptop farms in California, Tennessee, and Virginia, enabling North Korean workers to appear as US-based employees. The scheme funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars to North Korea's military programs. Didenko was arrested in Poland, extradited to the US, and must forfeit over $1.4 million in criminal proceeds plus pay restitution.
