A new tool called the Trustnet browser extension empowers individuals to flag misinformation and identify others they trust to assess online content. The decentralized approach allows users to decide what constitutes misinformation and works for any content on any website. Through a two-week study, untrained individuals were able to effectively assess misinformation using the tool. The researchers faced challenges in enabling link-checking functionality and making design decisions that suit a variety of users.
