2023 has seen significant developments in BCI technology, with companies like Neuralink and Paradromics reaching important milestones. However, a recent collaboration between Forest Neurotech and Butterfly Network is developing a BCI that uses ultrasound instead of electricity to interface with the brain. This ultrasound-based BCI has several benefits, including flexible targeting of specific brain regions and accurate recording and stimulation. By using ultrasound chips, Forest Neurotech aims to stimulate and record neural activity with sub-millimeter accuracy. The technology is still in the research phase and isn't planned for FDA submission at this time.
