Two notable Linux filesystem developments: bcachefs 1.37.0 has been released with support for the upcoming Linux kernel 7.0, improved erasure coding, faster recovery from unsafe shutdowns, and faster multi-device filesystem operations. Separately, KDE Linux's March 2026 alpha release adds experimental APFS read-write support via the linux-apfs-rw driver, making it one of the first Linux distros to offer this capability. KDE Linux is an immutable Arch-based OS that also introduces Kapsule, a new container-based system for terminal apps using Incus/LXD. APFS support is preliminary and the distro currently only targets x86-64.
